Reflections on Reddit

(Blog post 2)

I signed up for an account with Reddit. Quite frankly, I was not impressed with the site at the beginning. I began perusing and found out the site has interesting communities. The first post that I read upon visiting a community had an expletive in at the very beginning. So unnecessary!! The users are pretty unabashed and crude with their postings. Reddit has its rules of engagement or “reddiquette”, if you will, and there are certain words that are forbidden on the site, yet, they are used quite frequently. The enforcement of the rules seem to be quite loose. Additionally, the site just looked like a giant mess initially but after a carefully scrutinizing it I found a pretty definite pattern of organization.

The users seem to be pretty close knit. It reminds me of Pinterest, a virtual rabbit hole. I liked browsing through the tags and reading the various posts. I visited a lot of subreddits which I thoroughly enjoyed, particularly “mildlyinteresting” and “Reddit Pics”. I actually replied to a few posts but posted none of my own. I have garnered few points and I actually like reddit. If I had the time, I could spend hours on the site.

A user asked a question about another book club site other than Goodreads because they didn’t like their 5-star system. I replied with a suggestion and actually got a “thanks” in my inbox. Yay!! I believe that I am hooked on Reddit. My overall experience has been great and I can proudly say that I am a Reddit lover and I find it very entertaining.
