Folksonomy

While taxonomy has to do with scientific classification, folksonomy is about classification but in a different vein. Taxonomy is formal system of classification and folksonomy is informal system of classification that is created by a community. It can be subjective. One may use a keyword to describe data and another my have a different perception and decide to assign another tag.

I find folksonomy very useful. Social bookmarking and tagging allows for the organization pages and posts into categories and tags. In other words, tagging helps users find content. Folksonomy is also a useful concept for search engine optimization. SEO increases traffic to websites if the tagging is relevant, however, too many tags can result in a penalty from google. I believe the acceptable amount of tags is five keywords.
